SkyAbove โ€“ Privacy Policy

What SkyAbove uses

Location. With your permission, SkyAbove uses your device's location to show aircraft flying near you. Your location is sent only to look up nearby aircraft and local weather, and is not stored by us or linked to your identity. You can instead pick any place on the map.

Flight data. Aircraft positions, routes, schedules, photos and weather come from third-party services (such as ADS-B exchange networks, AeroDataBox, Planespotters, airport-data.com and Open-Meteo) through our server. These requests contain the area or aircraft being looked up, not your personal information.

Purchases. SkyAbove Pro is sold through Apple's App Store in the iPhone app, and on our website through Stripe. Apple and Stripe handle payment; we never see your card details. We receive Apple's signed transaction information, or Stripe's customer and subscription IDs, status and renewal date, to turn Pro on for your account. Pro keys from earlier purchases still work.

On your device. Preferences, favorites, your spotter logbook, daily statistics and alert settings are stored on your device. If you don't sign in, they never leave it.

Accounts (optional)

You can use SkyAbove without an account. If you choose to sign in with Apple, Google or an emailed code, we store:

We do not store your location history, passwords or contacts. Emailed sign-in codes are sent through our email provider and expire after 10 minutes. Your data is stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure.

Deleting your account. You can delete your account at any time from the Account screen in the app or on the website. This immediately and permanently deletes your synced data and signs out every device. Lists already on your device stay there until you remove them.

Spotting (optional, signed-in only)

When you tap "I saw it" while signed in, we store that sighting for 14 days: the aircraft, the day and time, and a rough area of about 100 km (a whole-degree grid square, never your exact location). Other people see only how many spotters saw a plane, unless you choose a nickname and turn on "Show me as a spotter". Then your nickname, badges, reactions and recent sightings can appear on flights, on leaderboards and to people you accept as followers. Follows need both sides to agree. Turning "Show me" off makes you anonymous again, and deleting your account deletes your sightings, profile and follows.

Usage statistics

To understand how SkyAbove is used, our server counts radar requests per day by city, using the approximate location of the internet connection (country and city only). These counts are not linked to any person or device. Usage records of signed-in accounts are kept for up to 400 days and are deleted with the account.

What we don't do

No advertising, no tracking across apps or websites, and no sale or sharing of personal data.
